NEW PUP
This is a Racing Story from BORN TO RUN. Posted Sunday 27th June 2010

I now have a further whippet pup. He is called Rocky and is 11 weeks old. He is bred from OZZY whose pedigree is available on this site. The dam is BANATAY BUBBLES who has impecable coursing breeding. OZZY ( racing name MISTER STARBURST, pedigree name CUPIDS ARROW) is of course a Whippet Club Racing Champion and a Veteran Champion. I am aware of two pups from this litter that could be available. They have never been advertised and are still with the breeder. You could contact me if you wish and I would put you in touch with the breeder. I will now attempt to put a picture on of my ROCKY

STUD DOG AVAILABLE
This is a News Story from North Suffolk. Posted Wednesday 12th August 2009

You may have seen on another part of this site a photo and pedigree form of Mister Starburst, (Ozzy) Ozzy is owned by my friend Sara and she is keen to acquire a son of Ozzy. With this in mind she would like to hear from owners of bitches that might through their breeding be a suitable mate . Sara's intention of course would be to try and emulate Ozzy's achievments with a dog from the next generation. Ozzy as Mister Starburst is a Whippet Club Racing Champion on the track. He is also a top class lure courser having won the Bob Blatch Trophy and been runner up. Also, The East Anglian Championship has been won as well as a number of 32 dog Open stakes. It is rare for a dog to excel at both disciplines but Ozzy has achieved it. Most recently, (June this year) he went to Fakenham racecourse and won an Open event, convincingly beating his opponent in all three rounds to gain a handsome trophy and £200. Please study Ozzy's pedigree. If you would like further information then contact me through this site and I will put you in contact with Sara. Ozzy races off 29lbs

SHEBA BACK IN THE SHOW RING
This is a Lurchers Story from NORFOLK SHOWGROUND. Posted Tuesday 28th April 2009

For the first time in over five years, we took Sheba and Bracken to a lurcher show. Sheba, in the distant past has done very well at these events and her recent competition put her right back in the spotlight with her taking the winners spot in her group. Not bad for an eight year old girl. More shows to follow, I think.

New season racing
This is a Racing Story from HARVEL. Posted Tuesday 3rd March 2009

At long last we have returned to Harvel, attending the first meeting of the 2009 season. All our usual dogs were with us but on this occasion, Solo accompanied us for his first outing. We allowed him to watch the other dogs as they started and ran. He had not, of course seen such activity before. After a while we let him run over 50 yards behind the lure. He followed it beautifully. In fact he ran a second trial a little later and did just as well. These runs are solo, designed to get a young dog used to the chase and the surroundings. Our boy did extremely well for his first visit. We will take him to Newmarket next weekend, weather permitting, where he will hopefully continue his progress. We do of course hope he will.

A New Addition
This is a Racing Story from Home. Posted Tuesday 10th February 2009

~ Solo at three weeks old ~
~ Solo at three weeks old ~
Despite not having reported on the whippet racing front for some time, we have indeed been busy competing.

As has been said, our dogs having not been bred for racing, we have continued to enjoy modest success on various tracks throughout the country. Henrietta and Zorro have competed in our club events at Harvel and in various Opens as far afield as Cornwall. Such is our commitment and given the fact that our two are now approaching four years old, we have decided to acquire a racing pup to augment our team.

Going by the name of SOLO our new addition is at present just three weeks old. We have searched long and hard for what we think is the right dog. Time will tell of course but his breeding ( March Wind out of Savernake Falcon ) suggests that he may do well in the future. We will see.

HENRIETTA WINS IN THE COTSWOLDS
This is a Racing Story from Wickwar in Gloucestershire. Posted Tuesday 10th February 2009

~ Henrietta lure coursing at Wickwar at the Venture Hill Sprint ~
Henrietta and Zorro continue to excel on the lure coursing field. Following on from earlier successes in North Yorkshire

we took them to the village if Wickwar in Gloucestershire in mid August 2008. They were to compete in the Venture Hill Sprints. The course that is used, is a real challenge being 400 yards in length with a steep uphill gradient, guaranteed to test the stamina of the very best dogs.

Pleased to say, Henrietta won in fine style, further emphasising my belief that she continues to be one of the very best lure coursing dogs in the country at this time. Zorro ran extremely well and gained the runner up spot in his stake.

Mention must be made of course of Moss, their mum ,who competes at all the events we attend. Rarely troubles the judge ,though she has had some notable successes on the race track this season and continues to love competing.

The occasion was the National Racing Championships where the top racing whippets compete for the title Racing Champion, in their individual weight groups.Henrietta, we are pleased to report ,managed to make the final in the not exceeding 26lb. group and finished a creditable third, accounting for some very useful dogs along the way. Naturally all connections are overjoyed with this outcome as our coursing bred dogs continue to compete with the racing fraternity and at the highest level. (Note: Henrietta is the racing name of Bramble aka Hot Amber Belle.)

BORN TO RUN CLEAR THE BOARD AT HOLKHAM
This is a Whippets Story from Holkham Park, Norfolk. Posted Thursday 5th February 2009

The championship meeting of East Anglian Whippet Country Club took place in the imposing surroundings of Holkham Park Norfolk on Saturday 31st March 2007 by kind permission of the Earl of Leicester Two stakes were being run, the first being the Stableyard Championship and the second, the Kizzy Trophy.

Because Henrietta(Hot Amber Belle) had won a stake at a previous meeting, she qualified for the championship and I am pleased to report she ran out the winner, accounting for three good dogs in the process.

In the Kizzy Trophy Zorro(Fire Blade) and his mother Moss(Saucey Madam) were both entered, this meeting being the first time out for Moss this season. Both dogs were at opposite end of the draw and would meet only in the final should they reach it. Happily, that was the outcome and mother and son competed for the winner's rosette. Zorro did in fact prevail which was not totally unexpected so mother took the runner up spot.

A fantastic day and an unbelievable set of results for the Born to Run outfit.

Henrietta runner up at Henham Park. 17th March 2007
This is a Racing Story from Henham Banatay Bouncer Trophy. Posted Thursday 5th February 2009

Henrietta (Hot Amber Belle) continues to demonstrate a rich vein of form. Today she reached the final of the Banatay Bouncer Trophy for 8 all aged whippets at Henham in Suffolk. In the first round she easily accounted for the good bitch Elgedane Morning Glory of Lynperry owned by Mr Cork. In the semi, she was up against the winner of the Bob Blatch Trophy 2007, Surrey Hills the Witching Hour owned by Mr and Mrs Mitchell . This contest was less easy for Henrietta but she eventually prevailed and in fine style. Now to the final! The opponent this time was that phenomenal dog Banatay Bonanza owned by Mrs Bore and Mr Gant. Henrietta met her match this time and despite a close run course of some 600 metres the opposition proved to be too strong on the day. Incidentally, Bonanza had accounted for Zorro(Fire Blade) on his way to the final.

HENRIETTA BLAZES A TRAIL IN YORKSHIRE
This is a Lure Coursing Story from Little Habton in North Yorkshire. Posted Thursday 5th February 2009

This fantastic bitch continues to amaze us with her fantastic performances on the lure coursing stage. Her latest triumph occurred on Sunday 10 February 2008 on race horse gallops at Little Habton in North Yorkshire.

The event was staged by The Yorkshire Greyhound Club and we ran our dogs in a sixteen dog whippet stake for any size pedigree whippets.

The course was a straight 400 yard grass strip. The dogs ran from slips and to win the event, the successful dog would run 4 times beating a different opponent on each occasion.

Henrietta once again delivered and in some style. The final was a close run race . She competed against Gary Coulburn's Strikes Oddly Surprising, a very useful young dog which will continue to do well in the future.

The reward for Henrietta's endeavours was a splendid trophy presented at the end of what was a most enjoyable day. Our thanks go to the committee and members of The Yorkshire Greyhound Club for being so welcoming to the visitors from East Anglian Whippet Country Club.

Well done to all the competitors but especially to our Henrietta for writing yet another page in the lure coursing history book.

HENRIETTA MAKES HISTORY AT HOLBEACH
This is a Racing Story from Holbeach in Lincolnshire. Posted Thursday 5th February 2009

Some amazing news to report. Henrietta has won the biggest lure coursing stake for pedigree whippets ever held in this country.

Our club, East Anglian Whippet Country Club, staged a 32 dog stake on 29 September 2007 at Holbeach in Lincolnshire. This was a Open event and people brought dogs from all over the country to take part. The standard of dog was very high with some really useful competitors in the field. To win a 32 dog stake, a dog must run 5 times and that is what Henrietta did and in fine style. The course was a gruelling 500 metres or there abouts and was varied after each round to make sure that the dogs did not wise up to the route the lure was taking. Henrietta , on each occasion ran away from her opponent and was never really challenged although,as I have said , the opposition was top quality in each round. We are so proud of her, to us she is PRICELESS.

Zorro was also competing. He cruised into the third round but took a tumble , completely somersaulted and despite landing on his feet and continuing, he was just edged out of it at the end. Well done Zorro.

WELL DONE THE BORN TO RUNNERS!!

ZORRO STORMS TO VICTORY
This is a Racing Story from Sennowe Park near Fakenham in Norfolk. Posted Thursday 5th February 2009

It's with amazement that I bring you news of a fantastic victory by my lad Zorro.

Today, 11 March 2006, found us in the splendid venue which is Sennowe Park near Fakenham in Norfolk. Zorro was here to take part in the Sonny Puppy Cup, a prestigious event for younger whippets staged by our club East Anglian Whippet Coursing Club. The event was run as a sixteen dog stake using a variety of testing courses each of approximately 600 yards. As with a sixteen dog event, the winner must win four times and that is exactly what Zorro did. Hitherto, he has failed to impress at home to any great extent but today, I guess, the penny finally dropped and Zorro ran unopposed for speed and endurance in each of his rounds. A fantastic result, as all unexpected ones are!

HENRIETTA TRIUMPHS AT SOMERLEYTON. 3rd March 2007
This is a Lure Coursing Story from Somerleyton Hall. Posted Thursday 5th February 2009

A top class lure coursing meeting has taken place in the grounds of Somerleyton Hall in Suffolk. Henrietta turned out for the first time this season. Her field comprised a strong 8 dog stake and I can report that our girl was triumphant. The course was over about 800 yards and in each of her 3 runs she was the convincing winner.

After all of her recent problems she is now showing the form that I knew she had. We could not be more pleased for her

She and Zorro will both be competing in a similar event at Henham Hall in 2 weeks time. Please watch this space!! More success we hope.
